Gothic masterpiece ! A little harder to read that the average Anne Rice work, but completely worth it. This, my friend is the book that started it all. This is what inspired one of the strongest myth in our modern societies. White Wolf, Anne Rice and others would mean nothing without it.

Gothic masterpiece ! A little harder to read that the average Anne Rice work, but completely worth it. This, my friend is the book that started it all. This is what inspired one of the strongest myth in our modern societies. White Wolf, Anne Rice and others would mean nothing without it.

About the novel itself : it tells the tragic story of the most famous vampire of all the time, his fight against his deadliest ennemy (who is also one of the most complex and charismatic characters ever portrayed in a book), and his love for a woman who does not belong to him... or does she ?

Stoker uses a very intersting way of storytelling. Instead of focusing on the vampire himself, he adopts the point of view of the different secondary characters, relating their experiences in letters or diaries and being often witnesses of his awesome powers. This results in Dracula becoming all the more charismatic, and having sort of an overwhelming presence. You can feel he's there, in the mind of everyone, even if he is not actually.

Finally, what makes the novel good is also that the story takes place in the Victorian age, at the peak of power of the British Empire. The description of the society and people of that time is really a must for any fan. (show less)

  • Rainbow Six
    Tom Clancy

Fantastic novel. Packed with a very good balance of suspense, fast-paced action, and elaborate plot. The character cast is also perfect, with great and believable personalities. But what is the most addictive about Tom Clancy, and especially in this one, is realism. No one describes the military, and the people working for it, like him. A must have for Tactical/Espionage/Action fans.

  • Las benévolas
    Jonathan Littell
