There Is a God: How the World's Most Notorious ...
Antony FlewAt first, it looked kind of light, but when I started reading I realized that this book has some very heavy philosophical arguments for the existence of God. Antony Flew is not a Christian, even if he's a theist, but that seems to be the exact strength of his argument. It's reasonable, based on contemporary philosophy and science rather than revelation. Still, N.T. Wright adds a few words in the end just to make the case for Christianity as the most plausible religion. This book stimulated my... (show more)

Still, N.T. Wright adds a few words in the end just to make the case for Christianity as the most plausible religion. This book stimulated my ambition to study philosophy on an academic level. (Apparently, there are lots of theists in the field these days.) (show less)

(show less)

The Homiletical Plot: The Sermon As Narrative A...
Eugene L. LowryShort, but concise book on preaching as a narrative art form. Lots of great advice on "what *not* to do", but it's not exactly a "how to" that would easily benefit new lay-preachers. I would recommend this book to people who have already tried preaching and put some thought into the subject in advance.
