McMoneagle's book provides a timely and fascinating look at a reality few outsiders have ever seen, a scenario in which military psychics were trained and used for counterintelligence--sometimes involving life-and death decisions--at the height of the Cold War. This inside story of the U.S. government's "psychic spy" program told by its premier remote viewer, who reveals a reality in which psychics were used on a day-to-day basis by an institution within which psychic abilities were both revered and exploited. McMoneagle discusses the changes he experienced and the ethics of using psychic abilities to benefit a world power.
The first quarter of the book deals with McMoneagle's childhood and his career in conventional Army intelligence. McMoneagle's childhood was difficult and beset by the problems of parental alcoholism, but not especially remarkable as a whole. There were some incidents that, with hindsight, suggested he had some psychic talent, but otherwise it was just a tough life for an all too normal kid - heard that before?!
Consequently, when his time came to escape these circumstances, college didn't seem to suit him, therefore, the military was pretty much his only ticket out of town. He chose the Army in particular because only the Army recruiter didn't try to oversell his branch of the service with wild promises of adventure and advancement.
This being I believe McMoneagle's fourth book it provides a timely and pretty much fascinating look at a reality very few outsiders have ever seen, a scenario in which military psychics were trained and used for counterintelligence--sometimes even involving life-and death decisions--at the height of the Cold War.
Here are just a few (disclosed) achievements during his run as a remote viewer:
Among his achievements:
He described the interior of a top secret Soviet manufacturing plant and accurately predicted a new class of ship under construction--the previously unknown Typhoon Class submarine.
He sketched the location and described the thoughts and reactions of an American kidnap victim held by the Red Brigade in Northern Italy--U.S. Army General Dozier.
He accurately predicted when Skylab would leave orbit and where it would impact on the Earth's surface--eleven months prior to the actual event.
After conventional reconnaissance failed, he and others were able to locate a downed Soviet bomber that had been carrying nuclear materials.Between the lines in the official records are revelations about unrelenting attempts from within and without to destroy the remote viewing program, and the efforts that kept Star Gate going for more than two decades in spite of its enemies. This is a story for the believer and the skeptic - a rare look at the innards of a top secret program and an eye-opening treatise on the power of the human mind to transcend the limitations of space and time.

The novel is narrated by Amir, the pampered son of a well-to-do businessman from Kabul, Afghanistan. He tells the story of him and his former best friend, Hassan, and their childhood spent together leading up to an event that causes a magnanimous rift between them. Amir and his father flee Afghanistan after the Soviet invasion and take up permanent residence in California. Amir feels he has left Hassan behind forever until one day he receives news of the Taliban takeover of Kabul and that Hassan's son has been kidnapped. Amir must travel back to a country that rejects his new lifestyle and find Hassan's son before it is too late.
The book reads like a memoir and Hosseini's knack for vivid detail makes it easy to forget that the story is entirely fiction. Frightening at some points and uplifting at others, The Kite Runner is an emotional journey full of political upheaval, tests of friendship and the trials of finding the strengths of one's character. Ekhart Tolle's message in this book of his, is simple: living in the now is the truest path to happiness and enlightenment. And while this message may not seem stunningly original or fresh, Tolle's clear writing, supportive voice and enthusiasm make The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment an excellent manual for anyone who's ever wondered what exactly "living in the now" means.
Foremost, it should be noted that Tolle is a world-class teacher, able to explain complicated concepts in concrete language. More importantly, within a chapter of reading this book, readers are already holding the world in a different container - more conscious of how thoughts and emotions get in the way of their ability to live in genuine peace and happiness.
Tolle packs a lot of information and inspirational ideas into the book: topics include the source of Chi, enlightened relationships, creative use of the mind, impermanence and the cycle of life. Thankfully, he's added markers that symbolise "break time". This is when readers should close the book and mull over what they just read. As a result, The Power of Now reads like the highly acclaimed A Course in Miracles - a spiritual guidebook that has the potential to inspire just as many study groups and change just as many lives for the better.
No question about it, this is a must read! (show less)
