Reviews I've Written

  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
    J. K. Rowling

As an adult I think I had a much different reaction to this book than many of the younger readers. It was a decent story and wrapped up the series well, but the revelations and events didn't come as so much of a shock to me as they did for many of the younger fans.

  • Earth Abides
    George Stewart

A startlingly peaceful apocalypse. It's very interesting to compare this novel to other, later, post-apocalyptic novels.
Much has changed since Stewart wrote the book, and I had to constantly remind myself of the publication date when reading it, but I would definitely recommend this book if you enjoy the genre.

  • There Will Be Dragons
    John Ringo

John Ringo is one of my guilty pleasures. He's not a great author, sometimes he's not even "good," but he can spin a fun yarn. There Will Be Dragons is an amusing story of how the modern Standard Fantasy World --replete with elves, dwarves, dragons, orcs, and all the other staples, could have come to be. Herzer, the protagonist, is a good stand in for the awkward D
