The Histories (Penguin Classics)
HerodotusA titanic accomplishment for me. Learned about Crocodopolis and the Scythians from the man Herodotus himself. Took about 40 hours on coaches to England and the Netherlands to do it, but I am glad I did. Its the perspective it gives. Its the rough guide to the cradle of civilization, full of totally useless tourist tit bits now all that is left is ruins. Glad I read the Persian history first though, it gives me even more than 'nuff respect for them. The story of Croesus' ruin is my own f... (show more)
