I was impressed. I had never read a Klavan novel before, but I like his style, even if it does seem a bit overly didactic at times. Without giving away the ending, it is very definitely a first novel in a series. I am really looking forward to the subsequent novels in the series, too. Others have written that the pace is slow, but I felt the pace fit the style of writing, which jumps between West's present attempts to escape his abductors and his trying to retrieve his memory.
