Reviews I've Written

  • Juliet, Naked
    Nick Hornby

This is the first Hornby book that I have ever read and I loved it. It caught my eye because it was based on music, but as I began reading it, it captured me with its characters and their interaction with each other. My one gripe would be that I felt a small bit of disappointment in the ending, which seemed not to tie things up as much as I would have liked, considering how attached I had become to the characters. My one gripe would be that I felt a small bit of disappointment in the ending, which seemed not to tie things up as much as I would have liked, considering how attached I had become to the characters. I love that I was able to want to read this book whenever I was trying to figure out which book to read out of the two I had going at the time. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is new to Hornby, or old fans. I am looking forward to reading more by Nick Hornby! Definitely worth reading. (show less)

  • The Help
    Kathryn Stockett

After a suggestion from a friend of mine (who has read this book three times), I finally picked "The Help" up from the library. I would have certainly finished it sooner if I had more time to read, but this is one of those books that I'd call amazing.

The 3 main characters are such strong, beautiful women. Sections of the book are told from their point of view, and the author captures each of their personalities, traits, and lives perfectly. The story about black maids in the Sou... (show more)

The story about black maids in the South in the 1960's also reminded me that the right thing may not always be the popular thing to do.

I recommend this title to everyone. (show less)

  • Infidel
    Ayaan Hirsi Ali

This is a must read for anyone interested in foreign politics, cultures, or an interesting story. Ayaan Hirsi Ali portrays her life in this book, showing us all that we must stand up for what we believe in, no matter what the threat is. Her story is one of hope and her cause is one of allowing women to be equal to men in ALL religions and cultures. For people who are tolerant of other cultures, this is an eye opening perspective and will challenge your views. Her writings are very thought pro... (show more)

Her story is one of hope and her cause is one of allowing women to be equal to men in ALL religions and cultures. Her writings are very thought provoking, and obviously threatening to the Muslim culture. (show less)
