Fantastic. Very ethereal, and tight in words. It's amazing how the simplicity can transmit raw emotion so well

Just finished this (4/1). A very quick read. While this was breakthrough, when it was published and predates much of the other dystopian literature, it currently feels a bit repetitive and didactic. For a 1924 novel, it is surprisingly prescient and subtly humorous.

Fantastic, touching book. Really humanizes much of the genocide and other human rights atrocities in Africa.

Humorous at times, but too often the serious themes are obscured by the verisimilitude of a dysfunctional office.

Junot Diaz deserves the praise that has been accorded to him. He manages to give an authentic voice to unusual characters that often receive scorn. The cracked-out drug dealer, deadbeat dad, and deliveryman become alive in a set of stories. While their plots differ, the stories cohere around a common symbology and lingua franca that is the essence of Diaz.

Fantastic book. Although some might rightly claim the back-and-forth ripostes are beyond belief, the themes of art and sexuality shine through and compensate for the novelistic deficiencies.
