Autobiography of a Blue-Eyed Devil: My Life and Times in a Racist, Imperialist Society by Inga Muscio

Quote-leftA stunning, stream of consciousness rendering of American history. It made me ashamed to be part of the human race yet completely in awe of the beauty we could possess if we chose to deal with our bullshit. Fantastic read, but do not go into it expecting another Cunt, because it is not Cunt and that is NOT a bad thing. Cunt did what it needed to do and this book does the same.Quote-right

Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace... One School at a Time by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin
Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote..., 2 months ago

Quote-leftThis book is so terribly written I can't believe it was published. The story is interesting and heartwarming, sure, but the writing! The author seemed to have a complete lack of the subtleties of the English language. The way he phrases things mucks up the meaning at so many different points in the story, it loses it's charm completely. As well, it's so full of random useless facts it's almost impossible to get to the heart of the actual story. I would not recommend this book, at all.Quote-right

Canadian History for Dummies (For Dummies (History, Biography & Politics)) by Will Ferguson
Canadian History for Dummies (For Dummies (Hist..., 2 months ago

Quote-leftVery thorough and accurate, yet hilarious. It tends to poke fun at the way history is normally written and it much easier to get through. If they used this in junior high social studies, Canadians might grow up to know something about their own history because it's actually READABLE.Quote-right

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer, 2 months ago

Quote-leftIt is addictive and an interesting story but oh-so terribly written. I swear on every page there is something about "narrowing eyes". Definitely meant for those still in junior high or high school, and yet strangely compelling still.Quote-right

The Year of Living Biblically: One Man's Humble Quest to Follow the Bible as Literally as Possible by A. J. Jacobs
The Year of Living Biblically: One Man's Humble..., 2 months ago

Quote-leftIt was alright, but didn't capture my attention like I thought it would. I enjoy A.J. Jacobs writing abilities, I think it was just my anti-religious streak that made it hard to get fully absorbed into it. It's very, very funny at the very least.Quote-right

El Perfume by Patrick Suskind

Quote-leftThis is my favourite book, hands down. I love his writing, even in translation. Brilliant. The story is so engrossing yet so appalling and disturbing. I could literally read this book over and over and over.Quote-right

Sexing the Cherry (Winterson, Jeanette) by Jean..., 2 months ago

Quote-leftNot my favourite by Winterson, but a delightful story. It's full of strange and humorous quotes and details I kept reading to my friends. Not her best, but definitely worth reading.Quote-right
