I was wondering what the general feelings were on visual bookshelf about if this book or the kite runner was better. I think its a tough call but I would learn towards this book as being superior, while both are worth reading.

Hmm... I hear from a "questionable source" that it's not nearly as good, particularly if you are a male.

kite runner is miles ahead of the TSS ,it clearly fails in depicting the emotions of the main character and i could not relate to the characters. The story is stretched to fill the pages.

i didnt think it was nearly as good as kite runner. still good, i still learned a lot. But it didnt pack the same punch.

Female characters were largely left out of The Kite Runner; female characters and their relationships with other women, their children, parents, etc. are a huge focus of 1,000 Splendid Suns. I prefer 1,000 simply because the story grabbed me right away, and in Kite it took me several dozen pages to really feel invested in the story. Both are excellent, though. The author has a real talent for telling a layered story. I can't wait to see what he writes next.

I thought both books were very, very good. Depending on whether you are a male or female, one might be considered better than the other. I liked 1,000 better because I thought it delved more deeply into the emotions of the characters. Can't wait for the next book.

I thought this book was good, but not nearly as good as the Kite Runner.

Personally I much preferred the Kite Runner, and I felt kinda let down when I read TSS, I'd just expected more if it. The Kite Runner grabbed my attention straight away and I just felt that the authors language is much more eloquent in that book compared to in TSS.

Kite Runner was better. Though I did like the stronger female storyline in Suns, but yeah, I agree - it felt stretched. The pace was inconsistent and I wasn't propelled to tear through it like I was with Kite.

I felt that a 1,000 was far better, while the Kite Runner(though still good) seemed slightly contrived, with the pieces fitting a bit too neatly. But that's just me.
