This is a book everyone should have the opportunity to read. Philip Gourevitch's writing is brilliant as he manages to travel back and forth between the past events that led up to the Rwandan genocide and the aftermath. He manages to tell the story, which is disturbing to say the least, but yet also create an understanding this whole story began. The human deprayity speaks for itself; Gourevitch goes beyond the horror so that after reading it you end up seeing both sides as victims.
absolutely amazing. I find myself still thinking about this book, months after reading it.
the "story" of the Rwandan genocide written by a journalist who knew the people and the country before, during and after the horrific genocide. If you havent read anything about the events in rwanda its a pretty good place to start.
less about individuals and more an analysis of the political atmosphere and events
the book that forced me to deal with genocide in my plays. Nothing prepares you for this...
This is my favorite book on the genocide. What is lacks in footnotes it makes up for in readablility. A great place to start learning about the events of 1994.
This book gives a very detailed account of the history behind and the events that occurred in the Rwandan genocide. A must read if you want a thorough examination of what went down
