It has been nearly two years since the day of the mass disappearances. In one cataclysmic instant, millions all over the globe simply vanished, leaving everything but flesh and bone behind. Nicolae begins as global war has erupted. The Red Horse of the Apocalypse is on the rampage, and the Tribulation Force sets a suicidal course that places them in direct opposition to the rise of Antichrist.

Summary: Rayford continues to work as Nicolae Carpathia's pilot. He meets up with Hattie, his old flight attendant who is engaged to Carpathia. Hattie is upset with her relationship and wants to leave Carpathia, who couldn't care less. World War III continues with a lot of talk about famine and disease but we don't see much, if any, of it. The best part of the book is Buck's mission to find rabbi Tsion Ben-Judah and rescue him from hiding after the murder of his wife and step-children. Buck's faith is tested on multiple levels and each time God delivers. They make it back home safely, where Tsion becomes a member of the Tribulation Force and goes into hiding in the basement of the members' church. Chloe spends her time worrying about Buck and going through the now deceased Pastor Bruce Barnes's notes so that they can be made into a book and distributed. The book ends with the fortold earthquake that affects the entire world. Buck knows that Tsion is safe and is racing home to find out if Chloe survived. Rayford is also alive, having been in a helicopter with Carpathia flying to Baghdad to pick up Amanda from the airport. We are left unsure if she or Hattie survived the quake. Definitely the best book so far. Keep reading. (show less)

These books just do not get any better as they go along. While the writing style may be marginally improved over the first book, this one still suffers from the same lack of imagination and storytelling abilities as the first two. As an example, at the end of the first chapter two of the characters are fleeing the center of Chicago in a rental car they got after landing at O'Hare. They see a "mushroom shaped cloud" in the direction of O'Hare and decide they need a sturdier vehicle, so they pull into a car dealership and spend who knows how long haggling over the purchase of a new Land Rover. I'm sorry: Chicago is under attack and people have nothing better to do than haggle with a car dealer? And the salesman has nothing better to do than to make a quick sale? And then, to close the deal, the salesman has to agree to have someone return the rental car to O'Hare, where the "mushroom shaped cloud" was seen. And it doesn't improve any from there. We are treated to a car stuck in a tree scene straight out of "Jurassic Park", inane dialog, repetitive narrative, descriptions of disasters that sound like a script treatment for a "disaster of the week" movie, and an all-night rescue attempt across the Sinai that was supposed to leave me breathless but just left me bored and unimpressed. The only enjoyment I've found in any of the books so far is seeing just how bad they can get and wondering how many people who have read these are wondering, on some level, if President Obama (A charismatic world leader who rose from obscurity seemingly over night preaching messages of hope and peace and unity while receiving unprecedented accolades from the global community.) might just be the Anti-Christ. I really enjoyed this novel, like its predesessors, it was not difficult to read, but it was a gripping story. The only thing I'm still having trouble with is this seemingly instantaneous realationship between Rayfird Steele and Amanda White. I mean, they meet because she wanted to share about Irene and wanted to fellowship - then the book (Tribulation Force) skips time and they're married. Too fast for me! I really enjoyed Captain Steele's shoving of Carpathis against the helicopter. It shows that he's still human and that if he wasn't aware of the prophesy regarding the assassination of the Anti-Christ, he'd kill Carpathia with his own two hands. I'm really excited to dive into "Soul Harvest". I wonder what LaHaye and Jenkins will give their readers next? (show less)

I thought this was the best book so far of the series, but that's not saying a whole lot. However, the writing was better and the action was better than the previous two. I'm glad that it left me on a cliffhanger, as it will ensure that I read the fourth book. I'm still struggling with the invented relationship between Rayford and Amanda and still find Chloe to be, well, annoying. I'm glad that it left me on a cliffhanger, as it will ensure that I read the fourth book. I'm still struggling with the invented relationship between Rayford and Amanda and still find Chloe to be, well, annoying. I find nothing intriguing about her that would instigate such a deep love from a worldly, educated person like Buck. She spends way too much time being annoying and boring than really doing anything. I also find that this series is beginning to upset me a bit with the weak female characters. Chloe is annoying and weak when she is touted to be strong. Hattie is a whiner and Amanda is nothing to remark about either. The most interesting thing about Amanda is that she dresses well. I hope the authors change this is the future books. How about Chloe saves Buck once? Hattie takes down Nicholae? (show less)

Nicolae is different from the first two... its very descriptive i think a important book in the series it ties up the entire story and sets the foundation for the series to continue without us losing interest... however wonder sometimes if it is going too smoothly considering it is the tribulation period.
