It is a wonderful thing to have faith. But how much better to have a faith that can be substantiated by reason. Blind faith is not a badge of valor but rather a mark of insanity. Lewis gives us the logic to help a Christian's faith be one of enlightenment rather than adherence to dogmatic traditions "just because".
What can I say? It is C.S. Lewis. My husband got this for me for my birthday. When I have the time I love to get lost in one of his works. He really challenges you to reach into the depths of your mind and soul to answer questions you never knew you were asking yourself...... and God.
Amazing. Great for the evangelist to American skeptics and atheists. Logical. Profound. Insightful. Made me think "why didn't I think of that". His way of taking an intellectual or average Joe through the steps of how our world HAS to point to God is seriously inspiring and humbling. It has given me confidence to speak in a logical and intellectual way with people who want nothing to do with God. Law. We all live under it and cannot deny it. Why? Read on.
This work is spectacular. It contains several of Lewis' masterpiece apologetic works, such as: The Great Divorce, A Grief Observed, The Abolition of Man, The Screwtape Letters, Miracles, etc. All of which are wonderful individually.
There are questions at issue between Christians to which I do not think we have been told to answer. There are some to which I may never know the answer: if I asked them, even in a better world, I might (for all I know) be answer as a far greater questioner was answered: “What is that to thee? Follow thou me (CS Lewis "Mere Christianity")
I finished Mere Christianity and its probably one of the best books I've ever read. C.S knows something that we all don't I'm sure of it. Either way, check this book out, it will really challenge you.
I absolutely love C.S. Lewis. Though, in my opinion, not as great a writer as his friend and fellow writerJ. R. R. Tolkien, he had great depth and insight in his ideas.
Overall a good read, though some books held my attention for longer than others. My favorites were Mere Christianity, The Screwtape Letters, and The Great Divorce
So far I've read Mere Christianity...I think this is one that I'll need to read a few dozen more times to really understand it! It's an awesome read!
Mere Christianity - read.
The Screwtape Letters - read.
The Great Divorce - haven't yet.
The Problem of Pain - haven't yet.
Miracles - haven't yet.
A Grief Observed - haven't yet.
