Read the Dynamite Blockbuster that Started It All!

Welcome to Trenton, New Jersey, home to wiseguys, average Joes, and Stephanie Plum, who sports a big attitude and even bigger money problems (since losing her job as a lingerie buyer for a department store). Read the Dynamite Blockbuster that Started It All!

Welcome to Trenton, New Jersey, home to wiseguys, average Joes, and Stephanie Plum, who sports a big attitude and even bigger money problems (since losing her job as a lingerie buyer for a department store). Stephanie needs cash--fast--but times are tough, and soon she's forced to turn to the last resort of the truly desperate: family.

Stephanie lands a gig at her sleazy cousin Vinnie's bail bonding company. She's got no experience. But that doesn't matter. Neither does the fact that the bail jumper in question is local vice cop Joe Morelli. From the time he first looked up her dress to the time he first got into her pants to the time Steph hit him with her father's Buick, M-o-r-e-l-l-i has spelled t-r-o-u-b-l-e. And now the hot guy is in hot water--wanted for murder.

Abject poverty is a great motivator for learning new skills, but being trained in the school of hard knocks by people like psycho prizefighter Benito Ramirez isn't. Still, if Stephanie can nab Morelli in a week, she'll make a cool ten grand. All she has to do is become an expert bounty hunter overnight--and keep herself from getting killed before she gets her man. (show less)

This book is laugh-out-loud funny. The first time that I read this, I was sitting waiting for my car to get fixed (one of those lovely 3+ hours waits). I could not stop laughing at Stephanie Plum's antics and everyone else in the waiting room kept looking at me every time I would chuckle. I'm sure they were wondering what I was reading and why I was laughing but no one asked. Stephanie is a former lingerie buyer who loses her job and goes to work for her cousin, at his bail bond agency, because she needs the money. Stephanie, of course, has no clue how to be a bounty hunter. She gets into one scrape after another. Stephanie needs money so she tries to go after the more expensive bounties, even though this means that the criminals are more dangerous. You meet the delicious Joe, a former/future boyfriend and a cop. You meet the mysterious Ranger, who agrees to help Stephanie learn a few things so she doesn't get killed. You also get to meet Stephanie's grandmother, who likes to go to funerals so that she can pick up men. Definately a series that is worth reading, especailly when you need a laugh. (show less)

Ok - I was recommended the Evanovich books by a friend after I mentioned that I wanted an easy read without the intimate scenes in a romance novel. Well, no intimate scenes, but I couldn't get over the constant foul language which was worse to me than the intimate scenes. If you could take the language out (which would destroy some of the character's details to an extent), the story line is interesting and keeps twisting in interesting ways. I did force myself to finish the book since I wanted to see how it would end, but I won't be reading the rest of the series. (show less)

After finishing the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris, I was left wanting another series to get involved with. Stephanie Plum was recommended to me by at least 5 separate people so when my mom received the first 4 books as a gift, there was no way for me to get around reading them.

I was entertained and finished the book quickly, however, A BIG HOWEVER, I don't really care about Stephanie or any of the other characters. While reading the Sookie books, I loved them SO much becau... (show more)

I was entertained and finished the book quickly, however, A BIG HOWEVER, I don't really care about Stephanie or any of the other characters. While reading the Sookie books, I loved them SO much because I cared about the characters and what happened to them. Maybe I need to read the next book, and I undoubtedly will, in order to start caring about what happens to Stephanie.

It was a good mystery/crime book but ehhh... I expected to LOVE this book after hearing people talk about the series. Oh well, still slightly entertained. I'll have to read the next book with an open mind because I REALLY want another series to read... (show less)

I was very excited to begin the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. One for the Money is the first book and it introduces Stephanie, a Trenton residing entry level bounty hunter and her first case--capturing Joe Morelli, an accused murderer and Stephanie's "first" from her adolescence. Plum tip-toes past dangerous thugs and criminals and finds herself in a more difficult spot than she imagined. It turns out the Morelli case is more complicated than she originally planned for, and the plot thickens when Morelli asks for Plum to conspire with him until he can find the witnesses to prove his innocence.

Not only was the book entertaining as a murder mystery, but I had some laughs when Plum blatantly messed with Morelli's life...stealing his car, breaking into his apartment, using his cell phone. I was expecting a hook-up in the end, but I'm guessing I'll have to wait until the next book. (show less)

What is your favorite Ranger - Morelli taking care of business event.

For me it is the end of "Eight" when Morelli takes her home and Rangers takes care of the bad guy.
