Another superb novel to delight Jacqueline Wilson’s vast 8-12-year-old girl fanbase.

Dixie is the youngest of the Diamond family. She and her sisters, dreamy Martine, glamorous Rochelle and tough Jude, could hardly be more different from each other but their Mum’s tried to teach them the value of sticking together.

Now Mum’s expecting yet another baby and she’s convinced this one’s a boy. Time to move to a bigger place, she insists, and the girls scarcely have time to protest before they find themselves at their new house. It’s rough, dilapidated and filthy and before they’ve even unpacked the furniture, Mum goes into labour!

By the time Mum comes home with the new baby, Jude’s been in a fight, Rochelle’s found a new boyfriend and Martine’s stormed off. Only Dixie stays loyally by Mum’s side – so only Dixie spots her secret…

Quote-leftI liked this book. It has a great plot and it's interesting being written from a child's perpective as you see how Dixie doesn't really understand some things... It's not really just a childrens' book. You can understand it better when you're older. And it's much darker than you would guess by reading the blurb. I agree with one of the other reviewers though - I didn't really like the mother. I guess I can sympathise with her since she is kind of unstable, but she treats some of the other characters badly. Overall, this book is surprisingly good. It's also short and easy to get through.Quote-right

Quote-leftgood story, but thought it was kind of unrealistic in places...it is a children's book after all, a very quick read for an adult!
found the mother irritating...thought she was a bit on the useless side and didn't treat the male character very well.Quote-right

Quote-leftJaqueline Wilson is such an amazing author this book was fantastic, I enjoyed it all the way through. The plot was very good and so was the ending. I feel sorry for Mary, what ever happened to her? If I was Jaqueline Wilson I would write a second book about The Diamond Girls, as it is a truly amazing book.Quote-right

Quote-leftI really cannot stand Jacqueline Wilson. She just seems to brew this huge cauldron of warped childhood experience, trauma, problems, more problems, a few slanging matches and then a tomboy character and some random mini-animal toy to go along for the ride. Then all of a sudden in the last few pages it's all resolved!

I have to study this at uni as well...blooming heck.Quote-right

Quote-leftThe Diamond Girls is a great lazy day read. If you have nothing else to do, this book is a nice way to just relax and enjoy the couple of hours it takes to finish.Quote-right

Plum Spooky

Turn on all the lights and check under your bed. Things are about to get spooky in Trenton, New Jersey. According to legend, the Jersey Devil prowls the Pine Barrens and soars above the treetops in the dark of night. As eerie as this might seem, there are things in the Barrens that are even more frightening and dangerous. And there are monkeys. Lots of monkeys. more
