The books strengths are its clearly written introduction, which sets well how 'modernist Islam is exactly to defined within the work, and its broad geographical basis for selecting texts. Many of the text selections, however, are dull and unexciting excerpts from otherwise fascinating individual; few of them are enticing enough as selections to lead one to further reading.
A great compilation of 52 key texts of Muslim modernist of 19th and 20th century. I have no regret buying it
