Having left behind the melodrama of her solitary high school days—and the beheaded martyrs in her paintings—Ellie arrives at the New England College of Art and Design. Looking forward to the opportunity to recreate herself and her art, she begins her first day by dirty dancing with the Devil. Then she makes out with him. Ellie soon learns a lot about herself in this story about independence, trust, and boys.

This is such a fascinating book because it is so true to life. I am amazed about the fact that I was able to relate to so many of Ellie's situations...and the fact that I know a guy like Nate Finerman is somewhat surreal for me. Frank has an excellent way of delving into the human psyche and exploring the awkwardness of coming to a new place, making friends, and just growing up in general.
Absolutely loved it--I definately wasn't expecting to like it so much--picked it up from the library on a whim, and found that it was so great!
Love Love Loved it.
It was different from other school, teenage love books. It had more meaning and less stupid, messed up kids that just drive me nuts =]
really really good book. i wasnt expecting it to be anything more than something chill to read in between shakespeare at the time and i got a really great story out of itl.
I liked this book a lot more than I expected to! I thought the story telling was a bit weird at first...something totally random would come up, and *then* it would be explained. At first I thought I was reading too fast and missing things, or just forgetting details, but no, they wind up being explained later. Anyway, I thought Ellie was pretty interesting, and the story was good, and I liked the art student angle. A keeper :)
This is my all time favorite book. Like comfort food. It's not spectacular but definitely works as my own coming of age
story .
One of my favorite books. It's a kind-of love story about an art student who falls in love with a swinger. I stole it from a friend who stole it from a library. But it's all good.
i read it once, bought it, and pick it up any time i feel lonely. i love the characters. Perfect book to read if you're going away to school in the fall
I read it twice a long time ago, and am giving myself time to forget enough to experience it all over again. Like comfort food.
I read this book with very low expectations, because all my friends who had read it absolutely hated it.
I, however, really enjoyed the author's take on art-school controversies as well as the main character's development in her artistic endeavours. A lot of the plot was fairly shallow, and surely the book could have done without a good bit of it; but smaller details really made this a not-entirely-disappointing read (especially for what is probably something of a silly teen novel, in all truth).
