This enchanting tale is at once a beautifully rendered narrative of childhood loss and a powerfully simple fable about the necessity of imagination.
Pobby and Dingan are Kellyanne Williamson’s best friends, maybe her only friends, and only she can see them. Kellyanne’s brother, Ashmol, can’t see them and doesn’t believe they exist anywhere but in Kellyanne’s immature imagination. Great book that I'd recommend to all of those playing daily with their immagination!
Simply written in order to provide us with complex images of innexisting characters. A book that made me burst into tears in the end... other friends and reviews mentionned the same effect. If you ever thought you were a "snowman", read this book, it will make you "melt".
Kind of a peculiar book, but touching in its message. A little girl's best friends go missing and this breaks the little girl's heart. It takes the faith of others to bring them and her smile back. A bittersweet story that is short enough to read in one sitting, but memorable beyond the last page
A short fable. A bit of Rorscharch (sp?) test I would say. If you're a romantic, you'll enjoy it. If you're a cynical bastard, you won't. I probably lean towards believing in the magic of the book.
I loved this, quick read, very sweet and sad (and I didn't perceive it as children's book as other reviewers have said)
I enjoyed this book for its shape, its unique plot, the sibling relationship, and the ability for a community to support one of its own against the odds.
Saw them filming Opal Dream when we were in Coober Pedy (Australia) and was told about the story. Love the story - it's nostalgic, funny and full of emotion.
When was the last time that you read a book in a single evening and kept thinking about the characters for weeks afterwards?
The is the best short novel. Ben brings you into this lovely story within the first pages. Excellent. Must read!
beautiful...very sad...
so beautiful that in the end they still want to believe, that all thought the little girl died, it´s like she's by her brother's side...and of course with her 2 good friends pobby and dingan...that´s why the man at the store says good morning to the boy, but also to the girl, pobby and dingan and gives to the boy 4 lolly pops.
it's a story of those who want to believe that live is more than to live and die, that to die, it´s not to dissapper... she's still in their mind and in their hearts, so it´s like as she is an imaginarry friend too, they know shes there, they just cant see her... but they´ll absolutly bealive that shes there...always.
a beautiful book, read it many times, but never boughted it...
such a cute little book, one of those books you read once and never forget.
it's heart-warming as it reminds everyone of us of the innocence of children and of ourselves when we were their age...bringing back a whoof of nostagia..:P
