Demonstrating once again her gift for spellbinding stoyrtelling, Anne Rice makes real a family of witches--a family given to poetry and incest, to murder and philsophy, a family that is itself haunted by a powerful, dangerous and seductive being.
"Unfolds like a poisonous lotus blossom redolent with luxurious evil."

I am rereading all of Anne Rice's book at the moment. In chronological, published order.
At the moment I am on my favourite one. The Witching Hour. Its in my top 5 books. I love this book. Brilliant.
A HUGE read from Anne, but worth every minute you spend reading it. The history she builds on the Mayfair family is ASTONISHING. The detail is so convincing, you find yourself wanted to visit New Orleans just to see the houses and check to see if there are Mayfairs living in them.
There is just no beating the Mayfair chronicles as hands-down the best series of books that Anne did. While the vampires tended to get a bit more exposure in the literary world and press.. the Mayfair chronicles took the reader even deeper into a more embracing chronicle! Behind The Witching Hour with Lasher and Taltos.. I was just completely captivated the entire way through all the volumes. Truly wish they would have done the movie as was planned! :(
I did really like this book but you have to be in the right kind of mood to read it because sometimes Anne Rice just babbles on and on and then all of a sudden you have no idea what she is talking about.
Brilliant, first Anne Rice book I ever read and it really got me hooked. Its one of those books you get so into you never want it to end. One of her best although all of her books are great. Prefer the Mayfair witches books to the vampire ones even although they are also amazing. Very well written.
I enjoyed this series nearly as much as the Vampire Chronicles...never could get to the end of Taltos though for some reason!
Very long and involved but well worth the time. Very rich characters and wonderfully interwoven storylines.
I loved this book! It spans over many generations. Get out your pencil to keep up with the different witches and their family. There is a companion book that has a family tree (it contains spoilers though). This is one book I didn't want to end... Can I be a witch?
I would love to see this book made into one of those big miniseries we had in the 80's. Of course, I suppose it will never happen. Too bad she stopped writing these kinds of stories. They are quite entertaining. But I guess Jesus is now her Lestat -- except not a rock star. Ahem.. Cheers.
I love this book! Anne Rice is one of the most descriptive writers. I want to visit New Orleans' Garden District!
