In New Moon, Stephenie Meyer delivers another irresistible combination of romance and suspense with a supernatural twist. The "star-crossed" lovers theme continues as Bella and Edward find themselves facing new obstacles, including a devastating separation, the mysterious appearance of dangerous wolves roaming the forest in Forks, a terrifying threat of revenge from a female vampire and a deliciously sinister encounter with Italy's reigning royal family of vampires, the Volturi. Stephanie Myers, however lacking in some of the finer qualities of writing, indeed knows how to turn and use this for her benefit and to her advantage. New Moon is a quality read, regardless of sex, because Myers characters of Alice, Jane and even Rosalie beg something from the male audience. Though the plot is quite thin in some respects, the way that Myers is about to hold our attention through the complex growth of Jacob, the revelations of her relationship with him and of course his confliction with his duties in La Push captivate us.

Bella although sometimes melodramatic in many respects captures the essence of the Romeo and Juliet dramatic, that Stephanie Myers is indeed aiming for. Theatrical and mystical, the love triangle emerging between Bella, Jacob and Edward makes us wonder whom would be better for our female protagonist. Whether it be the cold, caressing and elegant Edward, or the tough and rough Jacob.

Myers has of course set up the action that leads into the third book regarding the remnants of James tribe and their fixation of revenge on Bella. The Volturi's ultimatum also hangs in the air, as Bella and Edward are faced with an impending fate. Indeed then, Stephanie Myers leaves us to ponder and want more of this book, and it can only be said that the series will just get better after this. However somewhat depressing this book becomes at times, the pay off will excite and thrill its fans. (show less)

Bella and Edward's relationship went from meeting to endless impossible co-dependence in an instant. It's a bit gross, and not a great message for, well anyone. Her relationship with Jacob is fun healthy twinged with a bit of desperation (as Bella is essentially using him). I prefer Jacob obviously. But, throughout all of New Moon, Bella is depressed and frankly obnoxious. She whines, moons, emos and bemoans the hole Edward has left in her chest. This Hole practically becomes a new character as it's referenced so damn much.

As with Twilight, the plot as it were begins as the book winds down (Chapter 20 or so) the rest of the book is a story of an overly mature (maybe not emotionally mature) young woman trying to hold her life together as she heals from a break up. Which, if you've ever experienced that pain, reading it for millions of pages will be exceptionally grating.

Eclipse had better be better otherwise my faith in the 13-year-old-girl-defines-my-reading-choices genre will be shaken to the core (show less)

This may possibly be the only book I'll ever encounter in which a chain of events is triggered by the protagonist's getting a paper cut. (Apparently the tiniest droplet of blood is just too tempting for certain "vegetarian" vampires. Time to leave town, Cullens!)

I wish that Bella were written as a more interesting character. I find it difficult to believe that in Edward's 100-plus years of life she's the best thing he's encountered. Bella's primary skill is her ability to cook, and what good is that to a vampire? She isn't particularly witty or wise. She just has unreadable thoughts.

Bella's selfishness is epic. Yet, I'm still drawn to these characters in a middle school-mentality way. What girl doesn't want to have the most beautiful boy ever be in love with her always no matter what? Even if her petulance over not getting to be a vampire is monumentally annoying. So this one introduced werewolves into the mix. Imagine Underworld without the action, without the fine females, without being dark and spooky, and with even less dialog--just a post-pubescent girl telling you, telling you, and telling you some more about her irrational worries that (spoiler alert) turn out to be wasted worries all along.
So if you are thinking about reading this book, let me tell you what to do.
    1. Start by turning the closed book on its side with the binding on the table and the pages facing you.
    2. Measure exactly 1 inch from the left side, leaving 0.7 of an inch on the right.
    3. Use a hatchet or scissors (no running!) or a butter knife or whatever it takes to slice the book right at that 1 inch mark.
    4. Throw that inch of eviscerated paper into the nearest fireplace, don't look back, and pretend that it never existed.

Then you will be read to delve into and enjoy this book!
    You're welcome! (show less)

New Moon, while some interesting things happen in it, the novel is entirely dependent upon the first book. I'm surprised they bothered to make a full movie out of it rather than make a complete mini-series of the whole collection and do it all right. Instead of making one crappy movie that isn't enjoyable unless you've read the book and therefore know about all the details that have been left out.

There are new characters, but readers don't get a chance to really dig in and get to know any of the supporting or new characters in depth. Instead we get moer threats, more flirting, more of Bella and Edward behaving like lust-struck teenagers. Seriously, there's enough sap in these books to drown a small cow farm. For once I would like Bella to describe a non-physical attractive quality of Edward's, like his personality maybe.

All in all I'm pretty sure I liked this book better than Twight, since Bella was less annoying throughout the is one, and the Jacob (and his werewolves) featured throughout most of it. Unfortunately, in the end, nothing really changes/happens.

I really enjoyed this book, you get to know some of the other characters slightly better. I deffinatley enjoyed it more than the first and again it was a really easy read and found it difficult to out it down until I'd finished it.

I didn't like Twilight because I don't like my heroines to be stupid, but I heard Bella grew a backbone in New Moon so I decided to read it. While this book was more entertaining for me, I still think Bella and Edward have a codependent, unhealthy relationship that's kind of disconcerting. (What a great example for teeny-bopper girls, I might add.;) Jacob's and Bella's connection at least seemed happy and bright, but I don't think Bella deserved him. Although New Moon had it's flaws, it was still entertaining to read and will make a great movie.

The first one is better because it is about how they fell in love and you as a reader also become in love with Edward, but New Moon is more about the heartbreak after Edward leaves her...it's very dark and sad!

I actually thought it was better than the first one, the first one was soooo freaking cheesy... This one was sadder, which I liked.
