His kiss frightened me. There was too much tension, too strong an edge to the way his lips crushed mine - like he was afraid we had only so much time left to us. As Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob - knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation approaching, Bella has one more decision to make: life or death. But which is which? Following the international bestsellers Twilight and New Moon, Eclipse is the much-anticipated third book in Stephenie Meyer's captivating saga of vampire romance.

Stephenie Meyer said it herself: If Twilight is about finding true love, New Moon is about losing true love, then Eclipse is about CHOOSING true love. Meyer stayed true to her word. Eclipse shows what it's like to choose between two things that you love in different ways... when you don't want to give either up. (show less)

This third book in the series was almost too much to get through, and I do NOT mean that in the suspenseful, nail biting way. It was actually kind of painful. It's much longer than necessary, first of all. Secondly, if I see the word "glowering" one more time, I may have to punch something. If I hear Bella describe how worthless she is next to Edward one more freaking time, then duck, because I will likely chuck the book across the room. I'm not sure I even WANT to read the 4th book, but I hear it's so bad it's almost comical. I probably will, just so I can feel justified in my criticisms of this FAIL of a series. The question is, can I handle six hundred more pages of this?? *sigh* I will try. (show less)

I've been trucking along on my way through the series and I will admit that this is the best book I've read in the series thus far. I've been trucking along on my way through the series and I will admit that this is the best book I've read in the series thus far. Bella to me is still such an annoying character that you really can't understand what all the hype is about her in the supernatural/mythological world she's been thrown into. Bella sees herself as undeserving of the attention and, as a reader, I agree with her. She shows bravery at times, yes, but she does it for selfish reasons. Everything is blown out of proportion in her own mind that it makes her such a melodramatic character. I don't think I will ever like Bella at this point which is a shame since she is the protagonist of the series!

Now onto this book itself, aside from my annoyances with Bella I still love the other characters that Meyers has created. It was also wonderful to have the mythos of her universe expanded upon with the werewolves vs. the vampires and the vampire wars of the past. If Meyers would spend more focus on these elements of her universe I think the books would be more interesting however I understand that this is a romance and obviously the focus needs to be on that.

I found the scenes between Jacob and Edward to be quite good in that they provided a true conflict that has been, I felt, missing from the other books. The only issue is that from the get-go the reader knows that Bella will stay with Edward so really it just feels unnecessary, even though Meyers writes great moments between them.

Overall this was the best of the three I've read and I'm hoping that the series comes to a nice and satisfying conclusion with the last one. (show less)

Aahhh...if only I had a boyfriend who made all my decisions for me - like which friends I was and was not allowed to hang out with (even taking apart my truck when I decided to go visit said forbidden friends), what college I was going to attend (he even filled out the applications for me and forged my handwriting! How nice!); and let's not forget deciding when I was going to see my own mother, and even forcing me to spend a weekend against my will with his family when he's away! I would ha... (show more)

How nice!); and let's not forget deciding when I was going to see my own mother, and even forcing me to spend a weekend against my will with his family when he's away! I would have nothing left to ask for!

Except for, you know, a different boyfriend.

Unfortunately, I get to spend the first half of Eclipse with the return of overbearing, controlling Edward, doing everything in his power to keep Bella "safe". Bella, of course, is angry with Edward, but that doesn't stop her from gushing and gushing (again) about how flawless, godlike, unbearably beautiful, or *insert repetitive and overused adjective here* Edward is (Unfortunately, this continues for the entire book, even when Edward stops being so infuriatingly controlling). We've read the last two books. We get it.

Jacob, belligerent and annoying as he is throughout most of this book, gets it right when he says that it is better to be honest with Bella than to try and over-shelter her. That's about the only thing he gets right. Ever since he became a werewolf, everything about him seems to radiate violence.

The rest of the book, even throughout the "plot heavy" section, is full pages and pages of overdone, drawn out, overly sappy dialogue about how much one character loves another character, etc., etc. It's gets incredibly repetitive and annoying and serves mainly to break up the pacing just as it begins to move. The first time I read this book, I wasn't a huge fan. But the more I read it, the more I grew to like it and understand what exactly it is that Bella is going through. Technically, she shouldn't be having any issues at all in the romantic department. She's with Edward. And maybe she should be with Jacob, but that's beside the point. She's chosen. End of story. She is incredibly selfish in this book, but then again, people are selfish. Overall it's a good story, and those of you who diss without reading need to take a look.
