I am officially a Wilbur Smith fan. He is a master story-weaver and I am particularly taken with his passion for Egypt and Northern African culture. This book had an odd premise. It was a modern day sequel of his book, River God, set several millennium ago. Modern day archeologists find the fiction in River God to be true and set out to uncover the tomb of Pharoah, the tomb designed by a eunich servant who is the main character in the earlier book. Friends, be aware that Smith can get a little racy in his descriptions, but the story is fascinating. (show less)

No, it's a flop!

Awful. Stilted dialogue, painful plot, bad writing. I'm not a fan of Wilbur Smith anyway, although a scarcity of English books in Tanzania lead me ... (show more)

Awful. Stilted dialogue, painful plot, bad writing. I'm not a fan of Wilbur Smith anyway, although a scarcity of English books in Tanzania lead me to read rather more of his work than I would like, but this is beyond bad. I didn't finish it, which is rare for me. (show less)

  I just finished The Seventh Scroll. This book is similar to an Indiana Jones movie, but much better. There are many adventures as Englishman Nickolas Quenton-Harper and Egyptian archaeologist, Royan Al Simma challenge a ruthless German billionaire and the unforgiving, primitive world of the Nile River Valley in Ethiopia to find the treasure and final resting place of Pharaoh Mamose. To complete this task they must solve the puzzle of The Seventh Scroll, a puzzle set up by the slave Taita four thousand years ago. Beautiful, vivid description in this book and more twists and turns in this plot than a roller coaster. A thrilling ride! I was sad to have it end. (show less)

  Also like most Wilbur Smith books it was well written and well researched. Although it dragged for a bit in the beginning it was very well worth the read.
