This book should be a book for high school and prep college to study. in India.
I am writing this because we often fail to know what has been happening just across our borders. Many of us are confused and safety in our country, coupled with the work achievement, has got us very occupied with our own living.

Take this as a living example of what has been the outcome in Iraq.

I couldn't agree more.... with all due respect to Shakespear and his works.... I think they have past their time and are no longer relevant.... students need to learn as they read....
Facebook narys about 1 year agoI live in England. I have just recently read A Thousand Splendid Suns and The Kite Runner and I couldn't agree with you more. They may be works of 'fiction' but I learnt so much more from them, the atrocities that were and are taking place, than any news report on any tv channel. Beautifully written

You are about to read, if you do not choose to delete this, a little rant- I apologise profusely. ok well I would just like to say that it is always risky to take the contents of a story as verbatim. The cultural going ons of the region were and still are unfamiliar to me. It could be that the author's account in a thousand splendid suns is absolutely accurrate but I would be weary of taking that for granted. As such the novel has spurred me on to seek out a more objective account of life in Afghanistan - something that should stand to the author's credit. I look forward to more works from him.

P.S. not much of a rant was it : )

I just finished reading this book on the eve that kandahar prison was blown up and broken into. Whatever your thoughts on the accuracy of the portrayal of womens rights, it is hard to deny that the costs of war are another important aspect of the book. A war that many Afghanis thought was over with the arrival of the Taliban still continues to cause death and destruction that much of the outside world is beginning to ignore due to the longevity (and as you pointed out our own inward looking style of living). Bring this and other such books into the schools across the world not just India.
