Someone wanted his brother dead. But the establishment says otherwise. Jack tries to uncover what really happened on the beach that night, only to confront a wall of silence; a barricade of shadowy people who protect the privileges of the multi-billionaire summer residents. And when he discovers that his brother had nearly $200,000 in his bank account, Jack realises Peter wasn't just parking cars to make a living...THE BEACH HOUSE is a breathtaking drama of revenge and sexual intrigue -- with a plot so absorbing and a finale so shocking it could only have come from the unique mind of James Patterson. I didn't enjoy this book particularly but I did manage to read it all somehow. I mean it wasn't THAT bad or anything, but I just found it be a little pretentious and unbelievable for my liking. At times I felt like I was reading a script for a 90's Bollywood movie. All that was missing was the breaking into song every few minutes. I know a lot of people liked this book but it was just so unrealistic in my opinion. The story itself was poor and the only thing it had going for it was that it had very short chapters which made it more bearable. It was a little boring at times and the passing of time from months to years was poorly written in. The ending was very cliché, just like a awful dated Bollywood movie.
Not a great book and not something that I'd read again. (show less)

It was a light (in the sense that it didn't require deep concentration) and enjoyable read. Some of it was, indeed, on the dark side, as we inevitably will find evil lurking in such suspense novels, but the twists were well done. Good beach reading :) (show less)

I typically am not the fondest of Patterson's work. He is one of those authors that just throws out book after book. I question whether he has any interest in the quality of the story or is he all about quantity? I have read some of his work and I disliked it, but my friend told me that I would enjoy this one and I must admit he was correct. I suggest reading this book if you have some free time and want to enjoy a suspenseful plot. So even if you have a negative attitude towards his past wri... (show more)
