    Man, this book really opened my eyes on a lot of things "christian" that we tend to water down, simply because we're living in the "world"! For me, the story of Christian the Pilgrim strips away all that can divert our attention from what can be really going on in the spiritual sense, and leaves me with a clearer sight of the narrow road the Bible tells us we're on than I've ever had. I think it was therefore also a blessing and a necessity that John Bunyan was put in pris... (show more)

For me, the story of Christian the Pilgrim strips away all that can divert our attention from what can be really going on in the spiritual sense, and leaves me with a clearer sight of the narrow road the Bible tells us we're on than I've ever had. I think it was therefore also a blessing and a necessity that John Bunyan was put in prison first in order to be able to write this. I guess once out of the world and out of society, he had nothing but faith to see what the eyes can't, but yet is o so real...! Christiana and her children's story didn't do so much for me, though.     I really didn't know what to expect. If the book is not already on your list, you should add it. If it's already there, you should move it up. It's an easy read and Bunan does a great job of keeping the reader's attention. Having said this, I was less impressed with Part II. Much as movie sequels often fall short of the originals, Part II of The Pilgrim's Progress, while it might have been a perfectly good book as a stand alone in the absence of it's predecessor, it's no Part I.
