It's a hit!

I typed in Rainmaker and got 'Time to Kill'. Here we go again...

I purchased this book over the weekend while walking along the harbor in Paphos. There was a british guy selling used books and this was 3 euros, I figured, why not.

I think I have read one Grisham book before and he has had a bunch of his books made into movies, including this one.

It took me a while to get involved with this book. The first part is really slow and in parts just too fantastic. There are too many impossibilities that the protagonist makes it through, then again, truth is stranger than fiction.

The middle of the book is very good, although there is has some points where it drags a little, but Grisham keeps you interested.

The end of the book is phenomenal! This is what is meant by a page turner. Grisham paints a picture that is easily visualized and the story has great pace, you love or despise the characters and you just want to know how things work out.

If you like a good novel, this is it. Like the beginning, enjoy the middle and devour the end. (show less)

the rainmaker is a typical John Grisham book...amazing in all contexts..there's a perfect blend of emotioon, love and courtroom drama.It's about a young would-be lawyer,Rudy,...fresh from law school. he is full of ideas..not many though but his life is in turmoil when the company he was recruited by is taken over by a large firm which doesnt have any place for average students like himself.And as fate would have it, he has only a single case on his hand, a small insurance case which turns into one of the biggest cases in memphis state which rudy has too fight against the company itself.What follows is an amazing courtroom tale, written exquisitely. But what impressed me the most is the dry wit and cool humor used by the author which made me laugh aloud quite often. A must read for all grisham fans and for those who are not or havent read his books..this will surely get hooked onto it right away. (show less)

  The Rainmaker is one of the best books I have read from John Grisham. According to me Grisham has taken some risks by writing the whole book in the first person. Anyway, it is well written, remarkable and very entertaining.

  The book features Rudy Baylor, a law student at the end of his studies struggling to make a living. However, the fact of belonging to the low class does not help at all. As I was reading, it pained me a lot seeing young Rudy applying from one law firm to another. He was literally begging to be hired by one of them. Here, I do not exaggerate with that term. Read the book and find out yourself. But still no one would take him in spite of his good grades. The only firm willing to take him is one having quite a bad reputation with a maggoty boss fleeing the federal authorities. At times I wonder how someone can be so unfortunate in life. Really, that guy is very unlucky. Anyway, this is how John Grisham depicted him.

  Afterwards, Rudy decides to open his own law firm, however modest it is. Things start to change on the day a poverty-stricken couple retains his services to sue one of the leading insurance companies having abused them. He decides to fight their case free of charge. This represents a huge opportunity for Rudy to prove himself. This case can win both him and his clients a considerable amount of money in terms of damages. But a newbie suing such a big corporation is not a simple matter. In this legal battle, he faces a superstar in the name of Leo Drummond as the defense lawyer. In spite of all the hurdles he faces on his way, still Rudy won’t give up. I even find myself encouraging this fictitious character throughout the chapters.

  The suspense is well-plotted by the author as it is the case for most of his books. Once I started it, it was difficult, not to say impossible to put it down. The finish is also brilliant and we only have good feelings for Rudy Baylor. (show less)

  If you want to learn to be scared of insurance companies...this book does that. I've been putting off reading Grisham's books. I guess that, with the subject being of law, I expected his books to be dry and laborious. That wasn't the case (haha) at all! I loved learning some of the processes of law and insurance; i loved the characters and the situations and the settings. I thought Rudy was kind of impulsive and rather emotional, a deviation the movie made from the book which I liked be... (show more)

I thought Rudy was kind of impulsive and rather emotional, a deviation the movie made from the book which I liked better from the movie - I mean the temper tantrum of breaking the statue after he lost his job after a little week...what are you, Rudy, a toddler into terrible-two's? Haha :) But that's just character. Anyway, I learned a lot and loved the story along the way. A great book :) (show less)
