The book speaks a little bit about the purpose of journalism (especially independent journalism), but focuses mainly on how corporate media and government elites work together to create a web of lies to control public opinion.
Another important part of the book is the "revolving door" between government and the private sector - how board of directors and such in the private sector get elected or appointed to important positions, and how high ranking government officials end up gett... (show more)

Another important part of the book is the "revolving door" between government and the private sector - how board of directors and such in the private sector get elected or appointed to important positions, and how high ranking government officials end up getting big important private sector jobs. The book does a good job of showing how and why government and big corporations work together to control people and reap massive profits - often aided by government policy. (show less)

A few parts with overly wordy political jargon, but is very interesting as a whole because it discusses Amy Goodman's trials and tribulations regarding her journalistic endeavors in Indonesia (I mean Timor) and her frustrations of the monopolization that certain corporations over the media and therefore popular opinion.
