Concept-challenging. Lightbulb-illuminating. Life-changing. Of course the first few books on my "already read" are vital must-reads. (*AS I* I could list all that I have read, and as if I read most things completely straight through (nonfiction usually around 75%). I cannot believe I forgot this one (at the beginning of my list).
This simple volume is about so much more than addiction (of course we immediately think of negative addictions: drugs, alcohol, gambling, sex,...), and says so much more about our choices to give up and settle than the title conveys. Glasser teaches us how to utilize "addiction" to make us stronger. Of course his mainstays are running and meditation, but there are many "positive addictions" to be found. I love the section where he describes the conscious choice involved in going crazy. We all cope in one way or another; this book gives hope for constructive coping.
This is why I have come to love running...and am not a complete ball of stress.
I love this book! It's so inspiring and motivating to stick with a meditation or running program.
