Geisha of Gion

I enjoyed this book very much. It gave a real insight into japanese Culture and the true meaning of geisha. I also enjoyed Memoirs of a geisha, I think its hard though to compare a fictional book with one based on fact. They were both very different books.
This is the memoirs of Mineko Iwasaki; one of the most famous Geisha's in japan!
This is a fascinating look into the secret world of the karyukai!
This book is a must read for anybody interested in this fascinating world and the challenges it's inhabitants face on a daily basis!
I read this a follow up to Memoirs of a Geisha and found it wonderful. It was written by one of the Geisha's who inspired Author Gordon's book. It's my understanding that she won a legal suit taken regarding "Memoirs".
The book was so insightful, it was also a great read.
Really gives you an insight on a Maiko's and Geiko's life. I learned so much about this part of Japanese Culture by reading this book. A must for people who want to know more about this.
great read - I guess all I new before was the word, now I now a bit more about japanese culture. Very nicely written and easy to follow, but not shallow.
I read this shortly after watching the film Memoirs of a Geisha (no connection to this book) and it fascinated me completely. Mineko Iwasaki's frank and truthful portrayal of life as a geisha is a compelling insight into this culture and clears up many misconceptions of the lives of these women. This is truly the best read I've had in ages!
Amazing. The stories she has and her experiences were an amazing insight into the world of geisha. I laughed out loud much more than I ever had reading a book. She put out so much of her life just for people to understand.
Loved this book. Read it after Memoirs of a Geisha, think i actually prefer it. A sad but beautiful story.
This is a great companion to Memoirs of a Geisha. It's the real thing--a memoir of a real geisha. It was fun to find the similarities and differences. The book also includes a lot of information about Japanese culture in general.
Memoirs of a Geisha is crap compared to this. These are REAL memoirs of a REAL geisha. Memoirs just perpetuates lies about geisha life, like that giesha sell their virginity to the highest bidder. Skip Memoirs and just read this.
