For Esme - With Love and Squalor

One of my favorite stories of Salinger's. This is a really well-written story of a tryst that highlights Salinger's characteristically realistic dialogue.
One of the best books of short stories I've ever read. Only one dud (the second one), and the longer stories are thankfully the better ones as well. Recommended reading - thanks for putting me onto it, Mandi.
Reading the stories in this again. Bananafish and Teddy I think are very, very, very good and both easily make my top twenty stories ever. (Along with Bellow's "A Silver Dish", Lawrence Sargeant Hall's "The Ledge", Nathan Englander's "The 27th Man" and "Tumblers"; Hemingway's "Macomber...."
Most of my writing is shorts,so it's nice to read the very best ones
J.D. Sainger never disappoints. I am repeatedly awe struck with his ability to create in depth characers in such few pages. He is simply put a master of dialogue. Salinger's creation imagery, seting, and emotion w/o the chore of reading ten page descriptions or endless adjectives is truly beyond compare. He is much more than author of Catcher in the Rye (which is my favorite book), hs characters in For Esmo are just a robust.
As is typical with Salinger's works, it is difficutlt to present an overview of For Esme- With Love and Squalor without divulging important stroy line, but suffice it to say, true to his nature Salinger doesn't waste a word!
My #1 favorite piece of literature ever put on paper: For Esme With Love and Squalor. I think this simple short story is the real reason J.D. Salinger should be so famous, not that Catcher in the Rye isn't a great book, it is; but it doesn't hold a candle to For Esme... His other short stories are pretty good, too.
I love his writing, it's funny because Salinger is completely unpredictable. Even though as the story ends you feel that it is just beginning, the ending leaves you feeling a sense of acceptance that it is over despite feeling that the story has just begun.
A wonderful story about children. Was there a more charming little girl than Esme? Best line: (talking about her brother) Sometimes he's not so brilliant.
One of my very favorite short stories. Perhaps the favorite. Hard to choose between Salinger's stories.
This is the UK version of NINE STORIES. Brilliant. The title story is the best, but I love Before the War with the Eskimos as well.
I love this.
"A Perfect Day for Bananafish" is the most amazing story.
The rest are all beautiful.
Salinger gives me goosepimples.
If you love him you should definately read "Seymour an Introduction" and "Raise High the Roof Beam Carpenter".
