Ramona feels quite grown-up taking the bus by herself, helping big sister Beezus make dinner, and trying hard to be nice to pesky Willa Jean after school. Turning eight years old and entering the first grade can do that to a girl. So how can her teacher call her a nuisance?

Quote-leftI read all the Cleary books when I was young. Ramona is my first memory of identifying with a character in a book.Quote-right

Quote-leftRamona Quimby is eight and as feisty as ever. She's now in the third grade and gets to ride the bus to school, which is the most exciting thing to happen to her in a long time. Her father has quit his awful job as a checker and is going to college to learn how to be an art teacher. Her new teacher, Mrs. Whaley, well, Ramona doesn't quite know what to make of her. But she does know that the annoying boy in her class that she has named Yard-Ape, is quite possibly the most annoying boy ever.

I didn't like this one quite as much as the previous Ramona books. She didn't get into many of her predicable crazy antics. I can still see myself in Ramona, though. And reading about her is always a comfort.Quote-right

Quote-leftI read this to Tim as well. We can't get enough of Ramona. I think she reminds me of me...trying to do right and often messing it up.Quote-right

Quote-leftMore from precocious Ramona! Believe it or not, my second grade teacher's name was Ramona as well, and I started these books around that time!Quote-right
