The Kite Runner tells the story of Amir, a boy from the Wazir Akbar Khan district of Kabul, who is haunted by the guilt of betraying his childhood friend Hassan. The story is set against a backdrop of tumultuous events, from the fall of the monarchy in Afghanistan through the Soviet invasion, the mass exodus of refugees to Pakistan and the United States, and the rise of the Taliban regime.

Ive been racking my brain for books I loved and somehow this one escaped me till just now. But how could I forget the beautiful harsh reality that Hosseini writes of.
The 'Kite Runner' is such a well-written book; It felt like I'd met each character in person, Kabul's streets appeared amazingly real and the events that unfolded seemed like more than simply fiction.
my daughter recommended this...wow! It got me started reading books about the middle east, trying to educate myself about his part of the world.
Great great book. I'm still thick when it comes to the middle east but maybe a little less thick now. One of those books that lets you escape, enjoy the relationships within it and learn something along the way.
Read it with a friend, just remember it to be a decent story, disturbing at times (which is I guess the point) but overall not great
