Congratulations--just by looking at this webpage, you became 25% more patriotic.

From Stephen Colbert, the host of television's highest-rated punditry show The Colbert Report, comes the book to fill the other 23¿ hours of your day. I Am America (And So Can You!) contains all of the opinions that Stephen doesn't have time to shoehorn into his nightly broadcast.

Dictated directly into a microcassette recorder over a three-day weekend, this book contains Stephen's most deeply held knee-jerk beliefs on The American Family, Race, Religion, Sex, Sports, and many more topics, conveniently arranged in chapter form.

Always controversial and outspoken, Stephen addresses why Hollywood is destroying America by inches, why evolution is a fraud, and why the elderly should be harnessed to millstones.

You may not agree with everything Stephen says, but at the very least, you'll understand that your differing opinion is wrong.

I Am America (And So Can You!) showcases Stephen Colbert at his most eloquent and impassioned. He is an unrelenting fighter for the soul of America, and in this book he fights the good fight for the traditional values that have served this country so well for so long.

It's a hit!

I thought this book was hilarious! The entire time, Stephen Colbert's voice was going through my head and I felt like I was watching the show.

Stephen Colbert... our favorite pretentious pseudo-Catholic conservative poster boy whose playful sarcasm and purposeful conceit and belligerence most of us have come to love. His book was about the same way. The book covered a wide range of topics from the family to religion and everything you could ever want to read about and it was basically all of his opinion--which is obviously what we bought the book to read. The book is worth a few chuckles here and there and he is generally kind to people who don't have the same views but its very straightforward that he dislikes non-Christians, homosexuals, and liberals. What vexes me about Colbert is that I have no idea if his belligerence is his real self and if he really believes these things as fervently as he says or if he is just acting to stir things up. Either way, the book starts off well and laughable, but I didn't make it to the end because it all stays very same-y. I like his sarcasm and wit but the same kinds of "things a conservative would say" get really annoying. (show less)

Saitre has found a new master in the hands of Mr. Stepehn Colbert. His quirky, over the top rantings made this a very enjoyable book. I also chose the audio book route, which could have actually been a better choice. Having the author "yell" the book at me brought a smile to my face just reading those words on the box. The manner in which he read was obviously in the same vein as watching the Colbert Report, so if you are a fan of that show, you should give this a try. Colbert'... (show more)

Colbert's use of pop culture, ramblings that could make either the far right or far left proud, and totally lack and admission of not having anything facts to super his view were hilarious. The sections on religion, sports, and Hollywood were probably my favorites, but from start to finish this was thoroughly enjoyable. Give it a go, it's the American thing to do. This book like the Colbert Report is amazingly funny. The entire time all you can hear is Stephan Colberts voice saying everything you are reading. It's also a farely quick read.
Pretty much all of the book is sort of like a satire. Colbert is pretending to be a extremely republican extremely christain person bashing things like homosexuals and evolution, showing how people who are actually like that how dumb they sound.

This book was just full of wackiness and sarcasam.
It's also not just a straight read, there are random pictures, and pretend "activities" throughout that break up the reading. Each chapter also covered the many issues we have in America today like, religion, race, and science problems.
I agree that this isn't a book to read all at once, it is deffinitly better to read chapters at a time, it's alot easier that way to see the humor.
Deffinitly check this book out. (show less)

am I the only one who did not like this book

when this book came out I was just as excited as anyone ells, but after reading it I was left cold I was hoping for so much more I think he could have done better. I get the feeling that I am the only one that feels this way.

Portrait in the National Portrait Gallery

I am actually going to go check it out today (2nd floor bathroom, right?). I read that it is actually being displayed so I hope that is the case.

Oh, and the show has been great recently even without writers.

In regards to this book however... I have not yet read it... I need to get around to finding a copy as I bet it is pretty funny.
