What a wonderful surprise! I wasn't expecting this kind of quality - characters well defined and interesting, detailed context and a riveting plot. The best part is, I can recommend this to my children as well!
I checked this out because Sanderson was chosen to finish the final book of Robert Jordon's Wheel of Time series, and I was curious to read some of his own books. I'd have to say that Harriet made a great choice. Great book - the characters, plot, magic system, etc. are well-developed and interesting, and Sanderson is a skilled writer. But the unique aspect here is that it's set in the aftermath of the "dark side" having been victorious a thousand years before.
Fun book: a heroine I can identify with, great story, nice fantastical detail.
Freakin great read. I had trouble putting it down. I even called in sick to work so i could finish it in one day.
A very good, though relatively straightforward fantasy book. Well worth it on its own, and to set up the next book, which is amazing.
Awesome fantasy novel. The magic system is very well done, and realistic with regard to the laws of physics. One of the best I have read in years. Highly recommended.
