When Jesus ""made himself nothing...taking the nature of a servant,"" He modeled for all believers true humility. Andrew Murray calls this ""our true nobility"" and ""the distinguishing feature of discipleship."" With insightful, penetrating clarity, Murray calls all Christians to turn from pride, empty themselves, and study the character of Christ to be filled with His grace. Often called the best work on humility ever written, this edition has been edited for today's reader.

This is a fantastic book. But, that doesn't mean you'll totally appreciate it or totally understand it the first time through. Though I am one to enjoy deep theological books, there are times in our lives when we need to gentle pastoral guidance from one who has gone before us. That is what i appreciate from the writing of Andrew Murray. The basic theme of the book is learning humility from Jesus' example. And that being, not starting with humility towards man, but beginning the journey towards humility by seeing ourselves for who we really are before God. Only from that position, can we truly begin to live as empty vessels. I have often heard humility talked about only in how we treat others, for me it was quite refreshing to start even more foundationally. This book will stay in my collection and I will often revisit it. This particular version has more contemporary English - I have heard that there are other versions that are particularly hard to read. (show less)

Definitely a must read. This is different than Mahaney's humilty because it is going to hit on humility from more of a theological stand point and give the reasoning behind why we are called to be humble and how it is achieved. This will not give you rules and different things to try. It is going to emerse you into who Jesus Christ is and what His humility has done for us and what it does to us through the working of the Holy Spirit. If you don't have this book, get a copy and read it. We can... (show more)
