A reclusive millionaire makes a deal with the devil. Just another horror tale? Don't bet on it.
It's from Clive Barker.

It was a fun bit of 80s horror trash...it was better the 1st time around but still good for a puke and giggle. :)
Nobody does twisted like Barker, that's for sure. Striking, scary images. Lots of atmosphere. He feels no obligation to make his stories world shaking epics, instead concentrating on personal atrocities. Nihilistic, but not oppressively so, he understands the dark places within normal people, then amplifies to the point of horror. Though I liked this quite a bit, I have a feeling that this may be one of his weaker pieces based off of reviews of his other work.
One of Clive Barker's best. Scary, intriguing, sick, and, like all of Clive Barker's novels, in the end surprisingly soft and tender.
A great early novel by Barker, clearly groundwork for his larger work such as The Great And Secret Show.
This definitely was not as good as his short stories, It did have some interesting points however the pace was a little slow for me.
Clive Barker's grittiest book, it is clear that, as a new writer releasing a debut novel he forced himself to stay more within the realms of the acknowledged horror genre with this work than any of his others. As a result, plotline is sometimes sacrifices in favour of gore and downright unpleasantness. Still an engrossing read, and like most Barker works, original in it's premise and characterizations. Not one to read while you're eating.
NOT for the faint hearted, he is one of the most origional authors I know of. Blows King out of the water.
Clive Barker is one of my favorite horror authors for a reason. Though there were some things I wasn't a fan of in this book, overall it was a good read with an interesting concept.
Second Barker book I read - sensationally dark, looked into the depths and saw nothing but blackness, great book!!
Grotesque, yet beautifuly written. I couldnt put it down. Barker created moments of beauty, tragedy, sadness, and a reflection of human nature while talently weaving a world of absolute horror that just pulls you in.
