One of the most attractive formats for this genre. The author weaves together a variety of artists, whose styles vary greatly. I will be honest though, the images drew my attention far more than the narrative, which was long-winded at times. A fantastic read for artists and connoisseurs of children's literature.

I loved the information about the twelve different artists and how they came into their own, particularly the sections on Trina Schart Hyman and Brian Selznik. However, the author, Dylis Evans, takes the usual ham-handed route in critiquing the work of each artist, by wasting lots of space telling you exactly what is in the picture you're looking at along with her stated-as-fact interpretation of its symbolism. I HATE that. Skip those paragraphs and this is an excellent book. My 11 year o... (show more)
