Well written and it gives a great idea of what China was like in the 1920s. It's not much of a story all together - just a bunch of little stories on Young Fu's adventures over the course of like, 5 years. So parts of it were exciting and parts of it I got a little bored at. All in all it was a pretty good read. |

This book tells the life of a young Chinese boy who leaves the country life with his widowed mother for the big city. This book does reveal a lot about the culture and cast system in the early 1900's in China. It is a lengthy book and we were glad when it was finished since it was our read-a-loud for homeschooling. I would recommend it but it is a matter of taste and what you like to read. For educational purposes, it was a good book. |
