In lively, mordantly witty prose, Negroponte decodes the mysteries--and debunks the hype--surrounding bandwidth, multimedia, virtual reality, and the Internet, and explains why such touted innovations as the fax and the CD-ROM are likely to go the way of the BetaMax. "Succinct and readable. . . . If you suffer from digital anxiety . . . here is a book that lays it all out for you."--Newsday.

Quote-leftThe book's a bit outdated (1996), specially knowin it talks about techonology, internet, etc. additionally... lossy spanish translation. However, interesting content, particularly the foreshadowing of 'new' techonologies, all of them which have already appeared in some or other form.Quote-right

Quote-leftI read this book back in 1995 for an MBA class, and as such, is a bit dated now as some of his predictions are in progress, but an interesting read of you want to see what the world will be really look like when all bits and bytes are transmitted wirelessly everwhere. Nicholas Negronte certainly showcased his visionary talent here. He's clearly practicing his latest vision of technology of transforming education and the world's poor through his One Laptop per Child project, although he is experiencing the realities of how to do business with those at the bottom of the pyramid, complicated also by the challenges of running a non-profit business that should be acting like a for-profit business to be successful.Quote-right

Quote-leftThis guy hit so many things spot on 14 years ago. Listen to what he has to say about the future of technology, because it's invariably correct.Quote-right

Quote-leftten tijde van ongebreidelde geloof in de digitale toekomst geschreven; visionair, want veel is uitgekomen; andere dingen zijn even anders uitgedraaid of nog niet gerealiseerd.Quote-right

Quote-leftit's a very weird experience; reading about a future that you already inhabit. definitely recommended if only for the perverse sense of inertia.Quote-right

Quote-leftI read this in 1998 for a Mass Comm Law research paper. Considering it was written before the dawn of the internet, Negroponte forcasts the way in which information will be "shared" and questions the legalilty of laying claim to 1's and 0's as we transmit documents, music and other items digitally.Quote-right

According to legend, the Jersey Devil prowls the Pine Barrens and soars above the treetops in the dark of night. As eerie as this might seem, there are things in the Barrens that are even more frightening and dangerous. And there are monkeys. Lots of monkeys. more
