Catch-22 is like no other novel. It is one of the funniest books ever written, a keystone work in American literature, and even added a new term to the dictionary.

Boooooring. Depressing and stupid. Again a school book that I hated. Couldnt see the humour at all.
Someone once asked Joseph Heller why he'd never written another book as good as Catch-22. His reply? "Who has?"
The man had a point.
Amusing for non-military types. Either hilarious or too close to home for those in the service. Personally I think it is a must read for all who have enlisted.
In the first 100 pages I seriously considered packing it in - I was sick of its smart-alec hit and miss humour. Glad I persevered - it's hilarious in places, and very powerful. Flawed because many characters are so ridiculous that you don't care so much about their fate, even in the horrific last 100 pages or so.
My favourite character - Major ------ de Coverley.
Best part - so many, but Yossarian's apocalyptic Christ-like nightime walk through Rome is incredible writing.
Getting to know Yossarian and the idiots surrounding him was both frustrating and really enjoyable. Some of the wittiest dialogue I've read. It's like Alice and all of Wonderland dumped into the middle of WWII. Reading it a second time will be a completely different experience than reading it the first time, I'm pretty sure.
