Using the lore and the folk-magic of the men and women who settled North America, Orson Scott Card has created an alternate world where magic works, and where that magic has colored the entire history of the colonies. Great series, although not as strong a finish as I was hoping for. Still good.
Summary: I'm tired of this series let me wrap up the plot points in an unsatisfying clump and then take it in a new direction.
The most recent book and I hope not the last in the Alven Maker series. I love this series because it just sucks you in, it does not matter much what the plot is, just going back to that world and reading about the characters is a joy. Keep them coming Mr Card.
I got very frustrated with how all the characters and situations that got built up in the previous book were just hopped right over and dismissed with about a paragraph of explanation each. I still liked the book ok, and I'll still read the last one when it arrives, but I'm disappointed.
By this point, Card's series has lost all energy and meaning. The connection between Alvin Miller and Joseph Smith, always a little ridiculous, starts to really become offensive as the story heads towards Nauvoo and Carthage. Card's story feels weak and grasping by comparison with true history.
I was not pleased with the apparent ending of this series... i was to read about the crystal city! not make up how it all ends!
