You know, there are a lot of complaints in these reviews. But c'mon -- this is the FOURTEENTH Stephanie Plum mystery, or, if you count the between the numbers books, it's something like the 17th Stephanie Plum. Maybe if you've hung in there with her that long, you should just do what I've decided to do, completely suspend your disbelief, and just go with it. If you want great literature, then may I recommend Jane Austen. If you want great literary mystery, then I recommend Dorothy Sayers, or if your tastes are more obscure, maybe Josephine Tey. For great modern mystery, high-tail it directly to Jacqueline Winspear's amazing Maisie Dobbs series. But if you want fun, which is personally why I'm reading the Stephanie Plum mysteries, then I say stick with Janet Evanovich and just enjoy the ride. After all, even Jane Austen enjoyed making sport of her neighbors, and Janet Evanovich has got that down pat. (show less)

This is the first Stephanie Plum book that I waited to borrow from the library rather than buy the day it came out. The series has long been a reliable summer beach book, but I'm sad to say that I think the series has run its course. The plots have always been improbable, but, in Fearless Fourteen, the plot is downright laughable. Even more unfortunately, the absurd "mystery" is the only laugh in the book. The jokes have worn thin--Grandma Mazur is a sex-obsessed, funeral-loving nut; Lulu wears clothes way too tight; Bob the dog eats everything in sight. Most problematic, though, is the lack of any growth in the Stephanie character. Her bumbling attempts at being a bounty hunter were outrageous and fun in the first several books. Now they just seem pathetic. And, of course, as most reviewers note, the Stephanie-Ranger-Morelli triangle is played out. I understand that Janet Evanovich doesn't want to kill the cash cow by resolving things, but this slow death of what was once a delightful series is painful to watch. (show less)

  While not the best in the series, it certainly was entertaining. Any fan of Stephanie Plum must continue with Fearless Fourteen! You can always count on Evanovich's Stephanie to come up with snappy one-liners and laugh out loud moments. As a victim of unfortunate mishaps myself, I can definitely relate to her life. While I am finding that some things are becoming repetative, I still find them hilarious. The way these books are written, sometimes I almost feel like I'm watching a sitcom ... (show more)

You can always count on Evanovich's Stephanie to come up with snappy one-liners and laugh out loud moments. As a victim of unfortunate mishaps myself, I can definitely relate to her life. While I am finding that some things are becoming repetative, I still find them hilarious. The way these books are written, sometimes I almost feel like I'm watching a sitcom or something. I do hope that with the upcoming 15th novel, Evanovich starts to advance to how all of this will wrap up. I don't want the series to end, but at the same time I'm finding the novels getting a bit slower as they advance.

  On a final note, for anyone who actually reads these reviews - you must start with the first book in the series. You could pick up any of them and find them really entertaining, but it's best to start at the beginning and see where it all started. Damn Skippy! (show less)

  I didn't find this one to be quite as funny as the others. There were some laugh out loud moments, but compared to some of her other stories, which at points had me crying from laughing so hard, this one just didn't grab me the same way. I don't know if I'm just over these books and ready to move on to something else, or if Evanovich is running out of fresh ideas, but I wasn't quite as charmed this time around. Maybe my expectations were too high - she's had some books that had me absolute... (show more)

That and the Ranger/Morelli triangle which also felt a bit stale in this one.

  That being said, I did still enjoy the story and I loved seeing the relationship with Morelli develop a bit and getting to see the softer side of Morelli. The only thing that bothered me at the end was that the Lula and Tank wedding situation went unresolved. I'm guessing she's saving that for her next book, but the way it was left felt unfinished - she just sort of dropped that story line at the end and never picked it back up. That was honestly one of the main things that kept me entertained throughout the story - I can't imagine Lula being married, and I'm dying to know how Tank handles the whole thing.
