One of my best friends read this, and it is her favorite Dear America book. She said she loved the adventure, and the Indians, so on and so forth.
The beginning is that she is chilling out in her cute little Quaker town, and, like most Dear America books, she has a irrelevant crush on this dumb guy that is sort of bratty, and he has stupid eyes that just so happen to be blue.
She and her little bro are moseying back home from school, and Indians randomly kidnap them. (the plot was pretty b)
All right, this thirteen...13! Is going to marry this wacko who is 30! (he was not Indian, he was a random guy who decided to become Indian--like what's wrong with the way everything was???) When he keeled/kicked the bucket/abandoned ship right before they got married (actually, I'm getting things out of sequence here, she was rescued, and then he dies. But she had something what i think is called the Stockholm Syndrome), I was jumping with joy. "Yay! that creep gone"
but of course it was supposed to be sad, and, of course, you sympathize with the poor little Indians who were not causing any harm and suddenly these vicious people, (the girl was a Quaker) came and snatched her away from her cozy little wigwam.
I got some real weird vibes from that book.
this one was good and i liked the movie they made of it. this book shows how alike the english and the indians are and how the english supressed the indians just so they could settle.
This was my all time favorite book when I was a child... I read it over and over and over again. <3
This was the very first Dear America book I read, and obviously, I've been hooked for a long time :)
I loved it! I was reading it to my girls and I choked up at the end. It's a great book reflecting the struggle living our faith in the midst of other cultures. Thought-provoking and tragic because, as Christians, we get this wrong so much of the time.
Very good read, I couldn't put it down and devoured it in less than 4 hours! I even went and bought the book!
It was pretty sad...........but I liked it, it wasn't my favorite though...........
