I tried and tried to get through this book. I finally gave up about 1/2 way through.
I really wanted to like it but it just dragged on and on. The characters weren't interesting, likable, or not likeable. It was just so blah, I just couldn't do it.
Very atmospheric. It was interesting to hear about the war from the vantage point of civilians, particularly young, lonely women and children. There wasn't much of a plot, but the story of the conception of the book itself is as remarkable as it is heart-breaking. Considering this is actually a first draft, it's incredible.
This book would have been incredible had it been finished and edited. That being said, I was glad I read it.
Pity she wasn't able to finish the suite. I love how her writing style changes to fit the mood of the setting. Brilliant.
Fantasitc story about life in France during WWII. The background story about the book is just a fasinating as the actual novel.
Interesting but annoying after awhile. The author was pretty cynical but I guess she had a good reason to be disappointed by human nature. I found the author's life story far more compelling...
