Many are aware of Wilberforce's role in bringing an end to slavery in Great Britain, but few have taken the time to examine the beliefs and motivations that spurred him on for decades. Many are aware of Wilberforce's role in bringing an end to slavery in Great Britain, but few have taken the time to examine the beliefs and motivations that spurred him on for decades. In this concise volume, John Piper tells the story of how Wilberforce was transformed from an unbelieving, young politician into a radically God-centered Christian, and how his deep spirituality helped to change the moral outlook of a nation.

As world leaders debate over how to deal with a host of social justice and humanitarian crises, a closer look at Wilberforce's life and faith serves as an encouragement and example to all believers. (show less)

  • I read several quotes from this book to someone. We were just in awe of this man's life. How can we live our lives to the extent this man did. I claim to serve the same Lord as this man, but my level of service is so paltry in comparison.

This is a very good, short summary, of the life of William Wilberforce. The main points of this book focused on:

    1) The strong Christian beliefs of Wilberforce,

    2) How his faith gave him the strength and endurance to overcome the resistance of the British Parliment over a 43 year period to the slave trade and later to slavery overall in Britian.

    3) The joy Wilberforce experienced in his Christian faith.
