I love Beatles music. This book gives the history of their times, their backgrounds and the dynamics that created what we fondly celebrate in the memory of their music. The book is gritty, a bit lurid but most of all it is believable and thorough. We are given privy to some of the seedy aspects of their early metamorphosis. We are given the very early seeds to their eventual messy melt down. Spitz writes a very engaging book about a captivating group of guys who turned the world upside down. I walked away in sorrow that such a successful and meaningful group blew apart. Their original goal was to be great and show what love could do. The account shows how little they new of love in the sense they desired to inspire with their work. It is unfortunate that people with such high ideals failed in their main objective but succeed at music that enthralls literaly BILLIONS.

Super book! It is available in audio book format. (show less)

The book was amazing, you learn everything of the Beatles, from the birth of their parents, to their first gilfriend and interest, and their joruney through the music buissness, the ups-and-downs. They explain lost of songs, and give interesting facts and their recordings, on the way they wrote them adn why, how they edited and their popularity and rates. The worldwide beatlemania is explained down to the last die-hard fan. Its a really really good book, form the first page to the last full of emotions and their quests and wins thrugh the world, and last their emotional and up-hill battle of the last albums and arraiging their affairs when everyhting was cold and hard between the, and the chemestry in one way or another had already dissapeared. In times it was a little bit to praising ( in the begigng with John, and then finally with the Bealtes as them), but it is rich in details. =)♥ (show less)

You will no doubt learn more about the Beatles than you probably need to, which is expected in a 600+ page biography. At times, I found this book to be overly biased and too praiseworthy of the band (like they were the only innovative band of the time). But other sections are riveting in details that are not usually attributed to the band, like the horrific death of John's mother while he was a teenager, or John's heroin addiction during the White Album through Abbey Road, or the fact that ... But other sections are riveting in details that are not usually attributed to the band, like the horrific death of John's mother while he was a teenager, or John's heroin addiction during the White Album through Abbey Road, or the fact that they all had Gonhorrea while recording their first album (which they picked up from hookers in Germany), or whether Yoko did, in fact, manipulate and break up the band, which makes this interesting reading, and takes away a little of the myth.
