Dark forces are at work at the House of Night and fledgling vampyre Zoey Redbird’s adventures at the school take a mysterious turn. Those who appear to be friends are turning out to be enemies. And oddly enough, sworn enemies are also turning into friends. So begins the gripping third installment of this “highly addictive series” (Romantic Times), in which Zoey’s mettle will be tested like never before. Her best friend, Stevie Rae, is undead and struggling to maintain a grip on her humanity. Zoey doesn’t have a clue how to help her, but she does know that anything she and Stevie Rae discover must be kept secret from everyone else at the House of Night, where trust has become a rare commodity. Speaking of rare: Zoey finds herself in the very unexpected and rare position of having three boyfriends. Mix a little bloodlust into the equation and the situation has the potential to spell social disaster. Just when it seems things couldn’t get any tougher, vampyres start turning up dead. Really dead. It looks like the People of Faith, and Zoey’s horrid step-father in particular, are tired of living side-by-side with vampyres. But, as Zoey and her friends so often find out, how things appear rarely reflects the truth…

There are several things about this novel that irritate me. The constant repetition of details from the other novels regarding the plot and character descriptions need to stop. I find my self skimming over complete sections in the book because I've already read what it has to say, in the first and second books. Though there are certain parts of the plot that keep me interested in the series, they are equaled with parts that are completely stupid, unrealistic, and predictable. The thing that annoys me most about this novel is that despite my dislike for so many aspects of the novel, I still find myself needing to read the rest and find out what will happen. It's actually infuriating, most of the novel I found myself wondering why I was reading it, and the rest of the time, I couldn't put it down. Unfortunately for me, it's very addictive. (show less)

If Twilight and Harry Potter were to get drunk and procreate, the end result would be House of Night. Again the authors go way overboard with the teenage lingo, almost to the point of it being absurd. There is not a single teenager I know that talks like that. And the use of the word poo is getting ridiculously annoying. Teenagers cuss, they don't say poo or poopy. Who, above the age of 6, even says that??? As with the other books, I find the writing in this to be very weak and the repetiton to be bothersome.
That being said, I will admit that I've been drawn in by the storyline. There is a good storyline hidden underneath all the jumbled nonsence. The best thing about this series is the characters. They are fun, colourful, and pragmatic.
All in all, this series would be so much better if the authors didn't try so hard. (show less)

I hate that details keep repeating. It's a series, descriptions of the characters are meant to be done in the first book. I'm getting a bit frustrated that she keeps describing Erin, Shaunee, and Damien so many times and only changing one word here and there. It's okay when she changes the description of them while something is happening, not reintroducing them when they haven't gone anywhere.
It is an excellent book though if you're into the whole vampire thing.

This one is a bit different, most vampires are changed and thrown into the world, but this series treats vamps as if they are still 'normal' until their bodies accept or reject the change.
Friends are friends and should love you despite flaws and if lying to protect them is the flaw then they should learn to accept it, not everyone will tell you everything. Erik knew what Loren was up to even if it wasn't exactly right, but he had the hunch like most boyfriends end up having. I feel bad for both of them, Zo and Erik cause they seemed to lost each other. Some one please tell me where the real vampires are hiding because they are to not in this book! I love supernatural beings but these "vampires" do more witchcraft than any vamps I know. If I wanted to read about witches, I wouldn't have bought a book about witches.

Why is this cover different then the cover i happen to own? I was just wondering cause I got the one with the neck, but I didn't know there was one with a back on the cover. I know there the same but only wondered why they did that.

Neferet : /
She pisses me off. In the first book I was so excited that Zoey was going to finally have a mother figure in her life, but with the whole demon being relesed thing... I dont think thats going to happen. She is evil and I cant wait to see what Zoey does to her.!
