A Friendly Letter to Skeptics and Atheists: Musings on Why God Is Good and Faith Isn't Evil
A Friendly Letter to Skeptics and Atheists helps readers—both secular and religious—appreciate their common ground. For those whose thinking has moved from the religious thesis to the skeptical antithesis (or vice versa), Myers offers pointers to a science-respecting Christian synthesis. Written in response to recent works by Sam Harris, Christopher Hitchens, and Richard Dawkins, this book is a reminder that there are intelligent and compassionate religious believers out there. However, the Christianity portrayed by Mr. Myers is pretty watered down and I think would be unpalatable to most Christians. Myers makes no attempt at an apologetic for Christianity, so if that's what you are seeking you won't find it here.

A well-written and reasonable argument for belief in a skeptical world. Myers demonstrates that faith can coexist with scientific reason and rational thinking, while arguing persuasively that believers generally are happier, longer-lived and healthier that full-on atheists. A little heavy on stats and studies to back his angle, but a cheerful and convincing read. Pascal's Gambit, the unabridged version.

Dr. Meyers spoke at the Iowa Teachers of Psychology conference on November 6, 2009. He was an amicable and persuasive speaker. I found his analysis of the mediator role of social-economic status in the correlation between reliosity and life satisfaction to be insightful and compelling.
