  After a visit to Northern Areas in Pakistan I remembered this book on my shelf (french translation). Had it since 1976 actually.
  At the time it had made a big impression on me, one of those visionary books announcing the ecofriendly attitude, flowerpower and asian mysticism. Now it is a bit outdated, of course, but still fascinating to read.
  Note the Karakoram Highway is built now, and the isolation of Baltit is no more a reality!
