Jody never asked to become a vampire. But when she wakes up under an alley Dumpster with a badly burned arm, an aching back, superhuman strength, and a distinctly Nosferatuan thirst, she realizes the decision has been made for her.

Making the transition from the nine-to-five grind to an eternity of nocturnal prowlings is going to take some doing, however, and that's where C. Thomas Flood fits in. A would-be Kerouac from Incontinence, Indiana, Tommy (to his friends) is biding his time night-c... (show more)

Making the transition from the nine-to-five grind to an eternity of nocturnal prowlings is going to take some doing, however, and that's where C. Thomas Flood fits in. A would-be Kerouac from Incontinence, Indiana, Tommy (to his friends) is biding his time night-clerking and frozen-turkey bowling in a San Francisco Safeway. But all that changes when a beautiful undead redhead walks through the door...and proceeds to rock Tommy's life -- and afterlife -- in ways he never thought possible. (show less)

Christopher Moore! What can I say? My second read by him. He is a fun writer. I love the humor this guy possesses. He keeps me laughing through the whole book. When you read the title of this one and you have never read a Moore book you don't know what to expect. You think...oh great another Twilight! NOT! It is witty and funny and full of great characters that you just love! The main character finds himself involved with a Vampire that became one quite by accident. She has no idea how to go about being one, there relationship is based on her needing someone to take care of things during the "day" for her while she is out. But then they fall into a strange love with one another. I don't want to give much of it away but I will tell everyone to read it. It will entertain you if nothing else. (show less)

As you can tell, I've enjoyed other novels by Moore in the past. However, the copy of Bloodsucking Fiends I purchased at my local Borders has numerous typos. I can't believe this made it past the editors. That many errors are a joke and I want my money back. (show less)

I love Mr Moore's humor and his quirky imagination. His take on what has normally been such serious genre - vampire lore - is delightful and, at times, laugh out loud funny. Our heroes are a group of late-night supermarket turkey-bowlers and a homeless man who calls himself the Emperor of San Francisco accompanied by his faithful furry companions. How can you not love this stuff? Jody, our female protagonist, is a newly-turned vampire is such a cool chick you may wanna offer her up your own ... (show more)

How can you not love this stuff? Jody, our female protagonist, is a newly-turned vampire is such a cool chick you may wanna offer her up your own neck. Between her and Flood's attempts to educate themselves on what it means to be "vampire" while avoiding the sun, curious cops, and the murderous 800 yr old vampire who turned Jody, life is pretty weird, wacky and wild!

If you read this be sure to follow it up with the continuing saga of Jody & Flood in "You Suck!" (I read them outta order, due to ignorance, but they both rocked!) (show less)

I have found a new favorite author with Christopher Moore. His enchanting comical takes about decidedly non-comical situations really give the reader a sense of this could happen to them. While I've been a horror and fantasy reader for a while now, this book was a refreshing change in tone. Can't say I've read many vampire novels in which I've laughed out loud on more than one occasion. Or felt the same levels of compassion for fictitous characters for that matter. I've known of Christopher Moore's work since Lamb was published, but until recently had never read any of his books. That all changes now. I was initially attracted to the sequel to Bloodsucking Fiends (You Suck) and purchased both at the same time I was so intrigued. And let me say, I was not disappointed! Very engaging book that left me thirsty (or is that bloodthirsty?) for more. And I've decided any time snapping turtles are introduced as a plot device, I should check it out...

The main characters are Jody, a red-hot redhead and recently turned vampire and her servant/love interest Tommy, an aspiring writer just striking out in San Francisco. Jody takes Tommy under her wing, much to Tommy's obvious and exhuberant delight. Along the way, they run into the vampire who turned Jody, who is set on having her for his own. A series of misadventures ensues, and Moore's cast of supporting characters (which are every bit as interesting as his main characters) get drawn into the comedy and action. The story ended and I found myself wanting more Moore.

Oh and speaking of the sequel, it reads like a conversation with an old friend, the characters are that familiar. Check both books out. I've already loaned or bought copies for several of my friends. (show less)
